Celebrating 20 Years of Beautiful Flowers in Melbourne
In 2026, Victoria Whitelaw Beautiful Flowers proudly celebrates 20 years in business. What began in 2006 as a tiny flower store on Toorak Road, South Yarra, has grown into one of Melbourne’s most distinctive luxury floral businesses, with beautiful stores in South Yarra and Brighton and a talented team delivering flowers, weddings, private events and corporate floral styling throughout Melbourne and beyond.
Two decades is a special milestone. It is an opportunity to reflect not only on how far the business has come, but on the family, team members, growers, suppliers, clients and community who have been part of its story.
Where It All Began
For founder Victoria Whitelaw, flowers have always been deeply personal. A second-generation florist, Victoria grew up surrounded by beautiful blooms in her mother’s flower shop, developing an instinctive understanding of floristry from an early age.
She inherited a love and knowledge of flowers and, in 2006, set out to create a business of her own. Her vision was an elegant, high-end floral boutique unlike anything else in Melbourne, one defined by exceptional flowers, thoughtful design and genuinely personal service.
The first South Yarra store may have been small, but it was filled with the season’s most beautiful botanicals and Victoria’s unmistakable sense of abundance, colour and style. Those qualities remain at the heart of the business today.
A Family Story in Flowers
Flowers are more than a business for us. They are part of our family’s story.
Today, Victoria works alongside her daughter, Jessica, a third-generation florist and Victoria’s second-in-command. Jessica plays an integral role across floristry, customer service, team leadership, events, operations and the continued development of the brand.
Victoria’s son, Thomas, has also been involved in the business since his teenage years, when he assisted with large-scale event installations. With a background in marketing, he continues to contribute ideas and a fresh perspective to the family business.
Across three generations, the family’s shared appreciation for beautiful flowers, considered design and exceptional service continues to guide the business.
Growing With Melbourne
Over the past 20 years, Victoria Whitelaw Beautiful Flowers has evolved from a small retail florist into a multifaceted floral business. Alongside its South Yarra flagship and Brighton sister store, the team now creates everything from meaningful everyday deliveries and bespoke bouquets to large-scale weddings, private events, corporate installations and ongoing floral styling for leading businesses and luxury hospitality clients.
The Victoria Whitelaw Flower School has become another cherished part of the business, sharing the love of flowers through relaxed, hands-on workshops where guests can learn new skills, explore their creativity and experience the joy of working with beautiful seasonal blooms. Workshops and flower market experiences at the National Flower Centre have taken that connection even further, offering guests a special glimpse behind the scenes of Melbourne’s flower industry.
This growth has been made possible by an extraordinary team of floral designers, delivery and installation staff, and an administrative team spanning marketing, logistics and operations. Their creativity, care and attention to detail are present in every order and event.
Remaining True to Our Roots
Although the business has grown, Victoria remains deeply hands-on. One of her favourite parts of the job is visiting the flower market several times each week to personally select the most beautiful and interesting botanicals for the stores, clients and special events.
Long-standing relationships with trusted growers and suppliers provide access to exceptional seasonal flowers, unusual varieties and botanicals grown especially for particular projects. Wherever possible, the business prioritises Australian-grown flowers, supporting local growers while ensuring quality, freshness and provenance.
Care also extends beyond the finished arrangement. Materials and vessels are reused wherever possible, floral foam is limited, botanical waste is mulched for compost, and water from store displays and events is repurposed for plants. These practical measures reflect a belief that beauty and responsibility should sit naturally together.
Adapting Through Every Season
Twenty years in business brings both remarkable highs and unexpected challenges. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when Melbourne’s usual rhythms came to a halt, Victoria launched The Veggie Box by Victoria Whitelaw. Drawing on her relationships at the Melbourne Market, the team delivered fresh fruit and vegetables to customers during lockdowns.
The initiative supported local growers, helped customers access fresh produce and, importantly, enabled Victoria to keep her team employed during an uncertain time. It remains one of the clearest examples of the resourcefulness, responsibility and care that have sustained the business over two decades.
A Milestone Worth Celebrating
This anniversary year has already brought wonderful recognition. Victoria Whitelaw Beautiful Flowers was named the 2026 Australian Small Business Champion Award winner in the Floristry category, following recognition as Runner-Up for Top Victorian Floral Designer at the 2025 ABIA Wedding Awards. Both the South Yarra and Brighton stores have also been named finalists in their respective 2026 Local Business Awards.
These honours are deeply appreciated, but the most meaningful measure of success remains the trust of our clients, those who return to us for birthdays, weddings, new babies, condolences, celebrations and all the moments that flowers help express.
Looking to the Next Chapter
As we approach our official anniversary in October, we extend our heartfelt thanks to every client, team member, grower, supplier, creative partner and member of our local community who has been part of the Victoria Whitelaw story.
The business has changed in many ways since that tiny South Yarra store opened in 2006, but its philosophy remains the same: exceptional flowers, thoughtful design and genuine customer care.
Here’s to 20 years of beautiful flowers, and to the floral artistry, thoughtful design and timeless beauty still to come.
